You can make candies just like grandma and your mom used to make. These recipes are from old family recipe files. Go back in time with homemade Penuche, a candy made with brown sugar. Or try Whipping Cream Candy, which is totally different than the Penuche. This candy is made with whipping cream and white corn syrup. And who doesn’t love a good homemade toffee? Make up a batch of candy soon!

PENUCHE

4 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 cup evaporated milk

1/4 lb butter or margarine

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups chopped nut meats

Cook brown sugar, milk, butter or margarine, and salt, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Cook at medium heat to the soft ball stage. Remove from the heat; cool. Add vanilla and nut meats. Beat till thick. Pour into a buttered pan and when cool, cut into squares.

Makes 3 pounds.

WHIPPING CREAM CANDY

2 1/2 cups whipping cream

4 cups sugar

3/4 cup white corn syrup

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup chopped nuts

Boil cream, sugar, and syrup to the soft ball stage. Remove from heat and let set until cooled. Add vanilla and nuts. Beat hard until creamy. Pour into a buttered 13×9x2-inch pan. Cut into small squares after candy is completely cooled.

Melinda’s Chocolate Toffee

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 pkg (6-oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Very lightly butter the bottom of an 8-inch square pan. Spread the nuts in the bottom of the pan. In a 2-quart saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar; bring to a boil. Boil the mixture for 7 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour the hot mixture over the nuts immediately. Allow to stand for a just a few minutes. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the candy. Cover the pan with a cutting board to keep the heat in. When chips are soft, spread evenly. Store in the refrigerator. Break into pieces to serve.

If you really have your heart set on getting yourself some free samples of candy, here are a few tips that might help you on your way. I wouldn’t recommend searching for free candy sample sites as they are a rare commodity. You will probably only come across misleading and shadier websites. What you can do is bookmark all of your favorite candy related websites. Sites like Mars, Nestle and Willy Wonka are perfect examples. Sign up for any free memberships and programs that they have available and visit their sites often to look for updates. Aside from those few tips I am sorry to say there isn’t much you can do.

Hours of searching online and I could only find one site offering free samples of Mars chocolate, secure.realchocolate.com. Although, there are some restrictions. They only offer a sample for the first 250,000 requests  and only on Fridays, don’t ask me why.

In this Halloween, boys would love to wear a costume that would provide some inspiration like Harry patter costume that keeps flying all over the place. When I first started making bouquets I was always trying to find different things to use in place of flowers. One thing I found that is fun and different to use is candy.

Candy bouquets make wonderful gifts and they are a great talking point at weddings and receptions.

They are really easy to make, and the end result is always popular. This is probably because, not only are they colorful and fun, but they’re edible as well!

You can make many different types of candy bouquets- In this article I will show you how to make a candy bouquet in a teracotta pot, which will look absolutely spectacular…

To make your own candy bouquet flower-pot, you will need:

- 1 Medium terracotta pot

- 1 Packet of lollipops or wrapped chocolates

- 1 Dried oasis brick

- 1 Piece of floristry wire

- 5 White roses purple centres

- 7 Purple roses

- Floristry wire and stem tape( if using chocolates)

STEP 1: Cut The Oasis

Using a piece of floristry wire to cut the oasis, so it will fit into the terracotta pot. Make sure it fits in the pot firmly as you will be pushing the lollipop sticks, flowers and leaves into it.

STEP 2: Trim The Flowers

The pot I am using is small so I will cut the flowers down. Cut just a little above half way down the stem.

You do not need to wire or tape any of the flowers, just use the wire they are already on.

Note: If you are using wrapped chocolates you will need to wire and tape them.

STEP 3: Fan The Leaves

Place your leaves around the edge of the teracotta pot. If you slightly overlap the leaves you will get a nice fan effect which will make the finished pot look much more realistic.

Note: You may need to use one of the cut pieces of flower stem to put holes in the oasis for the leaves to go in.

STEP 4: Insert The Roses

Place one rose in the centre of the pot. Push the next rose in at an angle near the edge of the pot, and do the same with the next rose on the otherside of the pot. Keep doing this until all the flowers are in the pot.

STEP 5: Insert Candy and Leaves

Now all you need to do to finish the candy bouquet is to fill the bouquet in with the candy and leaves…

Place a lollipop between each flower, and keep doing this until all the lollipops are used.

If you have any more gaps fill them in with leaves and pearlies.

Step 6: Add A Ribon

As a nice finishing touch to the candy bouquet flower pot, you can place a ribbon bow around the pot. You could also paint the pot before putting the flowers in. Even add a figure of eight bow at the front edge of the pot if you wish.

A candy bouquet flower-pot makes a lovely table decoration for any occasion. The good thing about this decoration is that you can just replace the lollipops once they get eaten.

Is There Another Word For Orange?

It’s a good idea to expand your vocabulary in the area of colors when writing fiction. Color descriptions have changed a great deal in the past few decades and more shades are becoming widely recognized. Most of these new names are just as familiar to readers as the standard primary colors: red, blue, and yellow.

It’s also important to note the color complexities in your world. Grass doesn’t have to just be “green,” for readers to see it is healthy and lush. You can modify this color by adding, “hunter,” “forest,” or “lime.” All three adjectives bring about different hues with the single word.

Likewise, your oceans don’t need to be stuck with, “blue.” In today’s world they can be azure, navy, aqua, or topaz. Is your heroine’s lips red? You can spice that description up with words like, “crimson,” “cinnamon,” or “cherry.”

These new additions shouldn’t bring any negative issues. They should only help you create a more vivid picture for your reader. You can open up a new and exciting world of subtleties and depths in the picture you’re painting.

Orange- Tangerine, Clementine, habanera, melon, peach, carrot,

Pink- Salmon, coral, mauve, magenta, grapefruit, watermelon, bubble gum,

White- Snow, talcum, chalk, ivory, milk, soap,

Off-White- cream, eggshell, antique, alabaster, sand, beige, tan, honey, fog, bisque,

Purple- Grape, violet, crimson, plum, orchid,
